Hi, I’m Rose,

founder of the Waldrup Somatic Method™

My work began with a fascination with what exists underneath behavior—the subtle shifts in the body, patterns of arousal and recovery, and the ways dogs communicate long before behavior becomes obvious.

Over time, that curiosity developed into an approach centered around nervous-system awareness, observation, agency, and building capacity.

Today, I teach dog owners and professionals to look beyond simply stopping behavior and begin understanding the dog experiencing it.

Calm Was Never the Goal.

A dog can be still and overwhelmed. A dog can be obedient and struggling. A dog can look “calm” without having the capacity to navigate what’s happening around them. That’s why this work isn't about manufacturing calm. It’s about building capacity. The capacity to experience. The capacity to recover. The capacity to adapt. The capacity to communicate. The capacity to move through life with greater flexibility.

What Is the Waldrup Somatic Method™?

The Waldrup Somatic Method™ (WSM) is a nervous-system-informed approach to understanding and supporting dogs.

Rather than looking only at behavior, WSM asks us to look deeper—at arousal, recovery, body language, environment, capacity, agency, and the individual dog experiencing the moment.

The goal isn't to create a dog who is calm all the time.

The goal is to build a dog who can handle more.

WSM teaches dog owners and professionals to recognize what the nervous system may be communicating, respond to the dog in front of them, and create experiences that support greater regulation, resilience, flexibility, and connection.

At the center of the method is the R-Framework™:

REGULATE → READ  → RESPOND

It is not about memorizing techniques or forcing a particular state. It is a framework for learning to observe first, respond intentionally, and help build capacity over time.

WSM is educational in nature and is designed to complement—not replace—appropriate veterinary care, behavior medicine, or professional training when needed.

From an Idea to a Growing Movement

What began as a different way of looking at dogs has grown into a community of owners and professionals asking a bigger question:

What if we stopped focusing only on the behavior we can see—and became more curious about the nervous system underneath it?

Today, the Waldrup Somatic Method™ is reaching dog owners and professionals around the world through education, courses, professional development, and a growing community centered around nervous-system-informed care.

1,200+ students educated
80+ professionals enrolled internationally
290K+ community across social platforms

And this is only the beginning.

WSM is working toward a future where conversations about dogs include more than obedience and behavior—where capacity, recovery, agency, regulation, and the nervous system become part of how we understand the animals beside us.

We aren't just trying to change behavior.
We're changing the way people see dogs.
